Privacy Policy

This privacy policy covers all pages on www.thebloodcenter.org and www.tbcfoundation.org as well as the TBC Mobile app for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone (collectively Applications).

What information do we collect?

We collect information from you when you register for a My Results account, fill out the general contact form, fill out theTBC Mobile feedback form, enter a contest on www.thebloodcenter.org, or when registering for a seminar, or when you make a financial donation using our secure online form. You may, however, visit our websites or use the TBC Mobile app anonymously. Our websites use Google Analytics to help improve our websites by seeing what pages and features our visitors use most frequently. Google's privacy policy, which covers Google Analytics, can be found at http://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/.

Personally identifiable information

  • Your name (first and/or last)
  • Your address, including city, state, and zip/postal code
  • Your telephone and/or fax number
  • Your email address
  • Your device's Internet Protocol (IP) address

Financial information

Any payment information collected, which is only collected for seminar registration and financial donations made through the Applications, is never stored or retained in any way by The Blood Center. The information is protected using industry standard SSL encryption and is transmitted in an encrypted form to USA ePay, The Blood Center's chosen payment processor. The Blood Center does not store any payment information from you with the exception of your name, payment confirmation number from USA ePay, and the amount paid (for financial donations only) for accounting purposes.

  • Your credit card number
  • Your billing address and zip/postal code
  • Your billing phone number
  • The name on your credit card
  • Your credit card's verification number, often called a CVV, CID, or security code

Location information

Location information is collected when using the Applications. With your explicit permission, the Applications can request updates to your physical location using GPS or other methods provided by the device manufacturer. This information is only used to display the closest donor center, the distances from your current location to all donor centers, and to get directions to a chosen donor center. Your location is never stored by The Blood Center or transmitted to any third party without your explicit permission, such as when receiving driving directions.

Anonymous location information, such as your city, state, or country may be collected in an aggregate, non-identifiable form to allow The Blood Center to better understand website visitors in order to improve the services that we offer. Anonymous location information is never stored by The Blood Center but is instead collected and stored by Google Analytics.

What do we use your information for?

Any of the information collected by the Applications, with the exception of payment information, may be used in one of the following ways:

  • To personalize your experience with our Applications, to better respond to your individual needs
  • To improve our Applications
  • To send periodic emails or mobile push notifications, unless you opt-out

Payment information collected from you is only used in one of two ways:

  • To submit payment for registration for one of our seminars using our Applications
  • To submit a financial donation through our Applications

Your information, whether public or private, will not be sold, exchanged, transferred, or given to any other company for any reason whatsoever, without your consent, other than for the express purpose of delivering the product or service requested.

The email address you provide may be used to send you information, respond to inquiries, and/or other requests or questions. Any mobile device that you allow the Mobile App to accept push notifications for, may be used to notify you of new cholesterol results (via your My Results account), upcoming donation eligiblity reminders (via your My Results account), or periodic news updates that are also posted to www.thebloodcenter.org.

How do we protect your information?

We implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information when you place an order, submit, or access your personal information.

We offer the use of a secure server, which is mandatory on all pages where personal information is collected. All supplied payment information is transmitted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology and then transmitted securely to USA ePay for processing. USA ePay's privacy policy can be viewed at http://www.usaepay.com/privacy.htm. After a transaction, your payment information will not be stored on The Blood Center's servers.

Do we use cookies?

Yes. Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your device's storage through your web browser, if you allow, that enables the site's or service provider's systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information.

We use cookies to remember your sign on information for your My Results account in order to provide you with a seamless user experience.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a web analysis service provided by Google Inc. Google utilizes the data collected to track and examine the use of our websites and TBC Mobile app, to prepare reports on its activities, and share them with other Google services. Social media (Facebook/Twitter) interaction

The Blood Center uses social media to engage with donors and the community and has included functionality in its Applications to make use of the most popular social networks.

Facebook Like button and social widgets

The Facebook Like button and social widgets are services allowing interaction with the Facebook social network provided by Facebook Inc. Facebook's privacy policy can be viewed at https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/.

Twitter Tweet button and social widgets

The Twitter Tweet button and social widgets are services allowing interaction with the Twitter social network provided by Twitter Inc. Twitter's privacy policy can be viewed at https://twitter.com/privacy.

Additional information about data collection and processing

User's personal data

In addition to the information in this privacy policy, The Blood Center's Applications may provide the User with contextual information concerning particular services or the collection and processing of Personal Data.

System logs and maintenance

For operation and maintenance purposes, The Blood Center's Applications and any third party services may collect files that record interaction with the Applications, or use for this purpose other Personal Data, such as your IP address.

Information not contained in this policy

More details concerning the collection or processing of Personal Data may be requested from the Data Controller at any time by contacting info@thebloodcenter.org.

The rights of users

Users have the right, at any time, to know whether their Personal Data has been stored and can consult the Data Controller to learn about their contents and origin, to verify their accuracy, or to ask them to be supplemented, cancelled, updated, or corrected, or for their transformation into anonymous format or to block any data held in violation of the law, as well as to oppose their treatment for any and all legitimate reasons. Requests should be sent to the Data Controller at the contact information set out above.

Changes to this privacy policy

The Data Controller reserves the right to make changes to this privacy policy at any time by giving notice to its Users on this page. It is strongly recommended to check this page often, referring to the date of the last modification listed at the bottom. If a user objects to any of the changes to the policy, the user must cease using The Blood Center's Applications and can request the Data Controller to erase the Personal Data. Unless stated otherwise, the then-current privacy policy applies to all Personal Data the Data Controller has about Users.

Definitions and legal references

Personal Data (or Data)

Any information regarding a natural person, a legal person, an institution or an assoication, which is, or can be, identified, even indirectly, by reference to any other information, including a personal identification number.

Usage Data

Information collected automatically from this Application (or third party services employed in this Application), which can include: the IP addresses or domain names of the computers utilized by the Users who use this Application, the URI addresses (Uniform Resource Identifier), the time of the request, the method utilized to submit the request to the server, the size of the file received in response, the numerical code indicating the status of the server's answer (successful outcome, error, etc.), the country of origin, the features of the browser and the operating system utilized by the User, the various time details per visit (e.g., the time spent on each page within the Application) and the details about the path followed within the Application with special reference to the sequence of pages visited, and other parameters about the device operating system and/or the User's IT environment.

User

The individual using this Application, which must coincide with or be authorized by the Data Subject, to whom the Personal Data refer.

Data Subject

The legal or natural person to whom the Personal Data refers to.

Data Processor

The natural person, legal person, public administration or any other body, association or organization authorized by the Data Controller to process the Personal Data in compliance with this privacy policy.

Data Controller (or Application Owner, or Owner)

The natural person, legal person, public administration or any other body, association or organization with the right, also jointly with another Data Controller, to make decisions regarding the purposes, and the methods of processing of Personal Data and the means used, including the security measures concerning the operation and use of this Application. The Data Controller, unless otherwise specified, is the Owner of this Application.

Applications

The software tool by which the User Personal Data is collected. Applications include www.thebloodcenter.org, www.tbcfoundation.org, TBC Mobile for iOS, TBC Mobile for Android, and TBC Mobile for Windows Phone.

Mobile Apps

The software applications for use on mobile devices running the Apple iOS, Android, or Microsoft Windows Phone operating systems. These applications are TBC Mobile for iOS, TBC Mobile for Android, and TBC Mobile for Windows Phone.

Cookie

Small piece of data stored in the User's device.
